Full Court: Tennessee Flight captures title in both sections of Nike Nationals
Tennessee Flight 68, Boo Williams 61
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC -- For the third time in the eight-year history of Nike Nationals (held July 29-31 in North Augusta, SC), the Tennessee Flight Silver has captured the Nationals Division title by defeating Boo Williams 68-61. Just prior to that, the club's 15U team defeated the Boo Williams 15U squad 62-54 to win the Junior Division. In doing so, the Tennessee Flight became the first club to sweep both sections in the same year. In the first half, Rebecca Greenwell broke the game open for the Silver squad scoring 13 consecutive points enroute to a game high 22 to put her team ahead for the remainder of the game. Nina Davis added 14 points and Alexa Middleton chipped in 12. Although no all-tournament or MVP awards are given at the event, Tennessee Flight Silver Coach Tom Insell gave special praise to his point guard Middleton who took over the position when Tyesha Petty went down with an injury at a tournament in Texas and was lost for the remaining July schedule . Middleton, a shooting guard, has adapted quickly learning how to handle the point position in the sophisticated Flight offense. Adrienne Motley led the way for Boo Williams with 15 points.
To get to the championship game the Flight dominated West Coast Premier 66-39 in the semifinals, while Boo Williams defeated Minnesota North Tartan 60-53 in a game that saw a number of lead changes.
